Halloween contact lenses - what are the dangers?
Colored contact lenses for Halloween are becoming more and more popular. However with the popularity grow cases of injuries that result from use of illegal lenses sold without prescription. On the Internet especially, many advertisements say "Cheap scary contact lenses", "Spooky Halloween lenses - Huge Discounts". Beware that those may harm your eyes.
It is US Law that any contact lenses, including colored varieties, have to be sold only with a valid prescription from an eye doctor. Any other lenses could be the ones brought to the US illegally, could be counterfeits that were not produced with the requirements to protect eyes.
Prescription is required, do not buy without it.

Issues from use of non-prescription contact lenses could be devastating:
- scratches on the cornea (the clear dome of tissue over the iris - the part of the eye that gives you your eye color)
- corneal infection (an ulcer on the cornea)
- conjunctivitis (pink eye)
- decreased vision
- blindness

Non-prescription lenses could seem like a less expensive option for a fashionable Halloween look but they could result in expensive medical bill to treat your eyes if injuries occur from the non-prescription lenses.
Internet posted many stories about people who suffered from use of the illegal lenses. Avoid getting into the same situation.
