LASIK Surgery, Ventura County

LASIK is a safe, reliable, and painless way to improve vision without the need for glasses or contact lenses. The procedure is effective for many patients with nearsightedness (myopia), farsightedness (hyperopia), and astigmatism.

LASIK is very popular, with about 700,000 procedures performed every year. Current research shows that 99 percent of patients achieve vision that is better than 20/40.

Since LASIK was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in 1998, it’s undergone many advancements. Today, it is well regarded as an easy and effective way to achieve clear vision.

Contoura

Contoura LASIK is a form of personalized LASIK surgery. While traditional LASIK surgery maps the surface of the cornea, Contoura LASIK takes this to the next level, mapping 22,000 points on the cornea.

This topography-guided laser surgery can result in better outcomes for patients, reducing certain potential side effects of traditional LASIK, such as halos and glare. It can effectively treat nearsightedness (myopia) and astigmatism.

Traditional LASIK maps the surface of the cornea, but Contoura LASIK provides a much higher level mapping process, targeting 22,000 points. As a result, topography-guided laser surgery measures very small corneal imperfections versus simply measuring the overall curvature of the cornea.

With this detailed mapping process, Contoura LASIK is able to correct these minute imperfections, resulting in better overall vision.

Photorefractive Keratectomy (PRK)

Photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) is a laser vision correction procedure that uses an excimer laser to reshape the cornea, correcting refractive errors without cutting a flap. This method preserves corneal strength and avoids risks associated with flap errors in LASIK. During PRK, the eyes are numbed with anesthetic drops, and a laser is used to precisely reshape the cornea, providing customized results. The entire procedure takes only a few minutes in the doctor’s office.

Refractive Lens Exchange

Refractive lens exchange, or clear lens extraction, replaces the natural lens with a multifocal intraocular lens (IOL) to correct high farsightedness, high nearsightedness, or presbyopia without corneal modification like LASIK. Similar to cataract surgery, this procedure aims for refractive correction, offering rapid recovery and significant vision improvement. Patients can choose from a variety of IOLs to achieve the best possible vision for their individual needs.

EVO Implantable Collamer Lens

The EVO Implantable Collamer Lens (ICL) is a revolutionary solution for patients unsuitable for LASIK or PRK. It involves placing a biocompatible lens between the iris and the natural lens without removing corneal tissue. EVO ICL is reversible, ideal for high myopia or thin corneas, and provides sharp, clear vision without the need for maintenance.

SMILE

Small Incision Lenticule Extraction (SMILE) is a minimally invasive laser eye surgery that reshapes the cornea by removing a tiny piece of tissue through a small incision. Ideal for patients with myopia and astigmatism, SMILE offers quick recovery, minimal discomfort, and a reduced risk of dry eye symptoms. Miramar proudly offers SMILE as a safe, effective, and flapless method for achieving clear vision.
